An Unforgettable Journey with Rocky Mountaineer: Rockies to Red Rocks Experience

Traveling through the stunning landscapes of the American West is an adventure many dream of, and the Rocky Mountaineer offers a unique way to experience this beauty. Recently, I had the privilege of joining Maria Triantos, the Sales Development Manager for Rocky Mountaineer, on the “Wish List Wander” podcast by yours truely. During this special occasion, I received an invitation to embark on the “Rockies to Red Rocks” excursion, a journey coinciding with Rocky Mountaineer’s 25th-anniversary celebration. This experience promised breathtaking views, luxurious accommodations, and unforgettable memories.

Our adventure began with an arrival in Denver the night before the journey. We chose to stay at the Indigo Hotel, conveniently located near Union Station in downtown Denver. The hotel’s modern design and comfortable amenities provided the perfect start to our trip.

The excitement was palpable as we were picked up from the hotel by a luxury coach the following morning. The short drive to the train boarding platform set the tone for the day, filled with anticipation and joy. We were warmly welcomed with a toast of mimosas, marking the official start of our Rocky Mountaineer adventure.

The on-board dining experience was a highlight from the very beginning. The breakfast served was nothing short of amazing, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Lunch and snacks throughout the day were equally delightful, paired perfectly with a selection of drinks. As we journeyed through the Rockies, the staff shared engaging stories about the landscape and history, enriching our experience with fascinating insights.

Traveling during the day allowed us to maximize the scenic views, and the panoramic windows of the train provided an unobstructed view of the majestic Rockies. Each turn and bend revealed new, awe-inspiring vistas that left us speechless.

Our first day’s journey concluded with an overnight stop in Glenwood Springs. This picturesque town, nestled in the heart of the Rockies, is a place we quickly fell in love with. We stayed at the Hotel Maxwell Anderson, known for its beautiful architecture and comfortable accommodations. Glenwood Springs is a destination worthy of a longer future visit, with its charming ambiance and stunning natural surroundings.

The second day began early with hot chocolate or coffee served by the Colorado River. The fresh morning air and the river’s serene beauty set the perfect mood for another day of adventure. On-board breakfast was again a delight, preparing us for the scenic changes ahead.

As we continued our journey, the scenery transformed from lush mountains to beautiful desert landscapes along the Colorado River and cliffs. The contrast between the rugged desert and the flowing river created a mesmerizing backdrop for our travel. Each moment spent gazing out the window felt like stepping into a different world, full of wonder and beauty.

Our journey culminated in Moab, Utah, a destination that left a lasting impression. Known for its stunning red rock formations and outdoor adventures, Moab is an absolute must-visit location. The town’s unique charm and natural beauty make it a perfect end to the Rocky Mountaineer experience.

Reflecting on this journey, it’s clear why the Rocky Mountaineer is celebrated for its luxurious and scenic train trips. The “Rockies to Red Rocks” excursion, especially during the 25th-anniversary celebration, offered an unparalleled travel experience. From the warm welcome with Maria Triantos to the breathtaking views and exquisite on-board dining, every aspect of the trip was meticulously designed to provide an unforgettable adventure.

Mary and I highly recommend this vacation to all our friends. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or seeking a unique way to explore the American West, the Rocky Mountaineer promises a journey filled with beauty, comfort, and memories that will last a lifetime. Plan your adventure today and discover the magic of the Rockies to Red Rocks excursion – it’s a trip you won’t want to miss.
